  >  Where To Go   >  An unremarkable old crepe cottage in Penang, with extraordinary good

Crepe Cottage has been operating in Gurney Drive since 1999 as a crepe and pancake specialty store. There is a small bell hanging on the door of the Crepe Cottage store. Whenever customers open the door, the crisp bell will always make people feel happy. If you are visiting for the first time, the owner, Aunt Agnes, recommends that you must try the Roast Chicken, the treasure of the town, and the Mango Cup and Hot Apple are the most popular desserts in the store. All of their menus are homemade and taste absolutely unique.

The owner, Aunt Agnes, likes to watch Archie Comics. In the comics, an old man opened a Soda shop, which also inspired her to open a shop. She often tells her daughter that she hopes to open a dessert shop after she retires, just like the old man in the comics.

"Once, I talked with my friend about opening a store, and she generously lent me the vacant house to do business. After some decoration, the current Crepe Cottage came into being."

It is worth mentioning that Crepe Cottage is different from other cafes in that their kitchen is just outside for you to visit. Aunt Agnes said they use fresh ingredients so they are not afraid to let customers see how they cook.

She said that Gurney Drive was the most popular scenic spot back then, and many people went for walks and food in the evening. It just so happens that Crepe Cottage is on this street, with an excellent location.

店铺有着落后,接下来就是仔细规划要卖什么食物才能吸引顾客。思前想后,她决定售卖可丽饼。

"This store faces the sea, which is very similar to France, the birthplace of crepes, because the local specialty store is near the sea."

She mentioned that crepes were not popular in Penang at that time, and they could only be eaten in five-star hotels, and the price was very expensive. To that end, she decided to sell affordable crepes that everyone can enjoy.

In recent years, various specialty cafes have bloomed everywhere, one after another, but Aunt Agnes is not worried, because until now they are the only ones that specialize in crepes and pancakes, and their food portions are just right. The reviews are all good.

"Our goal is not to make a lot of money, but to treat customers like family or friends, and let them enjoy delicious desserts."

Crepe Cottage started business in 1999, 20 years ago. The shophouses have never been moved, just watching people come and go, the tide ebbs and flows. Different times have also changed the food culture of customers. For example, the beautiful photos of food are more appealing than the taste of the food itself. If the photos of the food look good, there will be a large number of people going on the pilgrimage; but if the photos are not attractive, everyone will appear to be less interested.

She said that now that social media is popular, many newly opened cafes pay more attention to store design and food presentation, but Crepe Cottage values the taste of food.

Crepe Cottage did not limit itself to making desserts, but took some ingenuity to match crepes with cooked food, presenting sweet and savory delicacies. If you have the opportunity to come here, you will definitely fall into the delicious taste of crepes and cannot extricate yourself!
